Saluki Linux - Puppy Linux XFCE

What make puppy linux special is that there are many kinds of puppy linux out there check out at puppy linux forum.

One of the beautiful and fast puppy linux is Saluki Linux, it is remaster of puppy linux developed by Jemimah. Saluki linux use XFCE window manager, the same window manager used by Xubuntu and many other linux distros.

XFCE itself is beautiful and lightweight desktop environment, it consumes less computer resources so it run fast in computer just 256 MB RAM. With XFCE it is easy to configure and tweak the appearance and it can be very beautiful if you want such as make window border transparent, make a shadow behind window, etc. You can make it easily with XFCE window tweak.

For me, saluki linux is a fast and beautiful puppy linux, so if you want a try other window manager beside JWM (default window manager in most puppy linux), try saluki linux.

Easy Way Installing Puppy Linux to USB

Installing Puppy Linux on a USB flash is very easy and I always run my Puppy Linux only from USB.

I usually install my Puppy linux to USB use a very usefull application it is Unetbootin. I do this in Ubuntu but you can run Unetbootin from windows operating system.

Here are what I do to install Puppy Linux to USB.

Step One

Download the latest Puppy Linux release from Puppylinux.org the .iso is very small it is around 125 MB and save in your computer.

Step Two

Download and run Unetbootin. In ubuntu, just run sudo apt-get install unetbootin in terminal. For windows OS just download it from Unetbootin site and run it.

Browse Puppy Linux iso in your computer and then click OK button to process and wait a minutes.

Step Three

Restart or Reboot your computer and set your bios to boot from USB then restart your computer then you can run puppy linux from USB.

If you want to keep using your USB make sure to make save file at first shut down and save your puppy personal save in to your USB or hard disk. This save file will save all of your data configurations and settings include your additional applications if you install some applications. And every time boot, puppy will load your save file.

Note

This way will not work if your computer does not support booting from USB, so the alternative is to burn puppy iso to CD using burning software.

Why do I Like Puppy Linux

There are many linux distros and every distro linux has special taste, and I have been working to try many of them. So I like to try many distros.

And here I will tell you about my experience to try one of them, this is Puppy Linux.

Puppy Linux is very special linux distribution and it's unique. It is very small in size about 100 MB while other linux distributions about 700 MB and more. Puppy Linux can be burnt in cd or you can install it in a USB flash and boot your computer from that media, and you will find a super fast computer even you run puppy in very old computer.

You do not need to install puppy linux in your computer (hard disk) because you can run it from cd or usb and use that madia every time you run puppy linux. I always run puppy linux from usb flash because it is more simple and easy to remove and install again with the other puppy version if you want.

Puppy linux is very fast because it totally run from RAM and make every program running fast. Puppy need minimal hardware requirements to run.

Puppy linux is a small linux distribution with full applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, internet browser and many more. You can also install your favorite applications like Gimp, Inkscape, and other applications and available in puppy linux package manager and very easy to install.

Ok, these only a small pieces I know about puppy linux and for more you can install it and try by your self. And for more information you can find in puppy linux site.
